Calamatta Dog Training uses positive reinforcement as the central element of all dog training. I am opposed to aversive forms of dog training and consider them unkind and ineffective. Positive reinforcement is shown to result in more consistent behaviors due to the proper communication of expectations and the correct shaping of the dog's behavior. This increases the dog’s confidence and enables it to be a successful family partner. Methods of positive reinforcement are not restricted to the use of treats but include any non-aversive reinforcer that the dog finds motivating. For example, toys, verbal praise, pets, sniffing, etc. I also understand that positive and aversive reinforcers are interpreted differently by each dog and that training plans need to be uniquely designed for the individual dog and owner.
Having fun training recall on a long leash with positive reinforcers in the form of treats.
Getting leash skills down and understanding the walk. Treats as positive reinforcers.
